Killola!!!

We saw these guys a few months back at the Casbah, never heard of them before but definitely dig their style. Three guys, one girl, lots of punk attitude with a hilarious dose of humor. Really, front woman Lisa is great on stage. We wanted to be her friends, then jump on stage and toss our hair. Then run right off to safety. They just came out with a video two months ago for a great song called Cracks In The Armor.

These kids are from Los Angeles, and just a heads up, they are playing the Smashbox ’Face Off’ Opening Night Bash in Hollywood, CA at 8pm tomorrow.

Check out their myspace for all their tunes and tour dates here.

Top Five Best Christmas Gifts Online

posted by fraye5

in Frayed Threads

In honor of Black Friday, we thought we’d take some time to mention some cool stuff we’ve found online to give to friends and family this Christmas. We don’t like run of the mill mall stuff, so if you like the unusual and the quirky, you need to check these out. We are not affiliated with these guys, we just like their stuff and thought you might like it too.

1. Photobucket Plush toys aren’t just for the kiddies anymore. Esty Gertzman is an artist who creates toys with unusual fabrics like plush and wool. See the entire line.

2. cup and saucer Cozy up on the couch with a mug of hot cocoa this Christmas, with one of these designer mugs. Each cup has a matching saucer and are limited editions created by some of the most impressive illustrators in the field today. We dig it, and we think mom will too. Visit the store here.

3. Photobucket Here’s a fun DIY project, A Smore’s Kit. The design is in it’s simplicity. Plus, who doesn’t love Smore’s? Read the how-to here.

4. Photobucket This is such an innovative idea. Baby rattles made of sustainable materials and non-toxic finishes. No more massed produced plastic toys for the little one in your family. We love the concept and the design. See more about it on the Fawn & Forest site here.

5. Photobucket We love Allegra Noir’s woven creations. We just noticed she added some adorable dog wear to her collection. You know Bruno would love one. Our favorite is the Mojo sweater. Check them out here.

Lastly, we happen to think our t-shirts would make perfect gifts too. Our favorite tee at the moment is Paper Plane. Happy Shopping, from your friends at Frayed Threads.

in Food Porn

We know you rarely have enough room to enjoy dessert on Thanksgiving, but usually you try. Through deep breaths and maybe even an impromptu jog around the block. Thanksgiving has one of the best desserts around and should never be overlooked. There is soo much more than pumpkin or pecan pie. We’ve set up a list of the best Turkey (or faux turkey for us vegetarians) Day sweet eats.

Click on the names to get the recipes!

1. Gingered Apple Pie with Cider Bourbon Sauce. Not only does it sounds amazing, warm and buttery this is bound to impress your guests.

2. Orange Chocolate Tart. Simple yet such a dream. This tart will just melt away in your mouth, with a hint of orange. Simple to make as well.

3. Pecan Pumpkin Butter Trifle. This gorgeous dessert was featured on CBS and said to be a take on a traditional English dessert. Serves many.

4. Turkey decorated cupcakes. If you are a creative cat and have a way with frosting manipulation, make some fun turkey decorated cupcakes. Use any mix type and color white frosting with vegetable dye, and have a blast. Here’s a design from a successful attempt here.

5. Apple-Pumpkin frozen yogurt. Reader’s Digest has a great recipe for a perfect Thanksgiving frozen dessert. A great cool down after working on that dinner plate. That’s hard work!

6. Chocolate Espresso Pie. Ladies Home Journal has a wonderful recipe for chocolate espresso pie. Serious yum with a hint of “wake me up”.

7. Bourbon Street Butterscotch Brownies. Want just a bite? The Food Network online has a recipe for these moist and delicious brownies. You just can’t go wrong with bourbon and butterscotch.

8. Four-Layer Pumpkin Cake with Orange-Cream Cheese Frosting. Bon Appetit has a jaw dropping recipe for a four layer tower of wonderful.

9. Libby’s® Pumpkin Roll with Cream Cheese Filling. Libby’s® has never done our family wrong. This looks like an awesome take on a pumpkin dessert, easy to serve and so stylish. Grandma will just gush.

10. Cranberry Orange Bread Pudding. A southern favorite, bread pudding adds that home style feel to any dessert. Moist and soft with a dash of tang.

Please let us know if you create any of these desserts and send over pictures! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Perfect graphic design magic:
1 part Lenny Kravitz
1 part huge head scaled to massive proportions
A dash of tiny hands
Remove neck entirely

It’s soo bad its funny. How these disasters end up in print is beyond us.
